How electricity arrives at your place:
Electricity is generated at a generation site – a hydro dam, a power station, or a wind farm, for instance.
From the generation sites, grid operator Transpower transmits the electricity to distributors using its network of substations, transformers, high voltage cables, and overhead lines.
Regional distribution companies then make sure the electricity is available across a region, while retailers sell electricity to households.
