Investment in renewable power is surging, a survey released by the Electricity Authority (EA) has found.
The survey found that investors had committed to renewable projects capable of generating 5,000 Gigawatt hours (GWh) a year – that’s enough to power 625,000 homes and almost double the 2,600 GWh recorded when the survey was last completed 18 months ago.
“Demand for electricity is growing as the country moves away from fossil fuels and more renewable sources of energy take their place. It is vital that this level of investment continues to support the economy’s electrified future," EA Chief Executive Sarah Gillies said.
The figure relates to new renewable generation projects which are expected to be built by 2026. More details are available here.
